LingoPad is a free multilingual dictionary for Windows and is available for private and commercial use. As a desktop application it has the advantage that no Internet connection is needed. The development of the software directly under Windows has stopped but it is still running perfectly fine with the latest version of Windows 10. However, a cross-platform version of LingoPad for Mac OS X, Linux and Windows is planned for the future.

The software comes by default with a German/English dictionary with 230,000 keywords and 670,000 references. Further languages such as Spanish, French, Japanese, Chinese, Turkish, Kurdish, Esperanto or Norwegian and more can be downloaded via online update. Own word lists can be imported and used in parallel to existing dictionaries.

LingoPad is fully compatible to Unicode and can be used with “right to left” languages. For some languages, the pronunciation of the words as a phonetic transcription (eg. English and German) or reading (Chinese and Japanese) is offered.
